Langenhagen, January 2012
DEVELOP GmbH, based in Langenhagen, received the prestigious ‘Top Job’ seal of approval for outstanding human resource management in German medium-sized companies from Wolfgang Clement in Duisburg. This makes it the second time since 2010 for this provider of multifunctional systems for document production and document management to join the ranks of the most employee-friendly employers.
‘This award is a great endorsement of our work and a huge compliment to our staff,’ says DEVELOP President Dirk Roos excitedly.
In addition to modern human resource management, the active involvement in environmental protection is one of the most important pillars of economic success at DEVELOP. Another distinction confirms just how sustainably the company saves energy and conserves resources: as part of its competition ‘Office & Environment’, the B.A.U.M. e.V. association on 25 November 2011 named DEVELOP GmbH as one of the greenest offices in Germany. This, too, made it the second consecutive year that the company was among the winning participants.
productive. As such, DEVELOP places great emphasis on being family-friendly. Hence, parents are allowed to freely choose their working hours and, as far as functions and duties allow, also their workplace. This way, family and career can be reconciled much better. To achieve this, trust and extensive communication among employees are fundamentally important.
The company is also proactive with regard to elderly care: a cooperation agreement with a family service serves to assist and support employees if a family member is ill, for example. DEVELOP contributes to the consulting fees. Dirk Roos is certain that care for the elderly is a key issue for the future: ‘It is relevant for many employees, and we are preparing for it.’
Moreover, the company attaches great importance to further training and education – on both a technical and a personal level.
All these aspects were incorporated into the scientific two-stage process of the Institute for Leadership and Human Resource Management at the University of St. Gallen, which was used to identify the recipients of the ‘Top Job’ seal of approval. The core of the investigation by the director of the institute, Professor Heike Bruch, was an online survey of all employees. Concurrently, the HR managers of the participating companies provided information about their work.
The most environmentally friendly offices in Germany, which include DEVELOP for the second time since 2010, are rewarded annually by the non-partisan environmental initiative of trade and industry, B.A.U.M. e.V., in the ‘Office & Environment’ category. An eight-member jury of experts evaluates how sparingly participants use resources and how energy and paper consumption can be reduced as much as possible. With around 17 million office jobs in Germany, there is still great potential for environmental conservation lying dormant. DEVELOP makes consistent use of this potential. This includes, for example, the ongoing training of employees in environmentally conscious behaviour and the preferred use of video conferencing instead of business travel.
In addition, DEVELOP measures the amount of energy and all raw materials used, as well as the amount of greenhouse gases emitted and waste generated at each stage of the product life cycle. The results are carefully analysed to identify specific approaches to make improvements.
